Welcome to the Safeguarding Adults Website
Welcome
to our website, launched to coincide with the publication of
Sunderland’s Safeguarding Adults procedures.
Sunderland’s Safeguarding Adults Partnership is made up
of a wide range of statutory, independent and voluntary agencies
and organisations, all working together to keep adults, particularly
those who are more vulnerable, safe from the risk of abuse or harm.
Every day vulnerable adults are
physically, psychologically, financially or sexually abused,
discriminated against or neglected.
And every day people witness this
and say nothing. |
Adults most at risk of abuse are
those individuals aged 18 years and over who may be unable:
- take care of themselves
- speak out for themselves
- protect themselves against abuse or exploitation
|
Abuse is any behaviour towards a person that deliberately
or unknowingly causes him or her harm, endangers life or violates
their rights.
Would you know what to
do?
The worst you can do is nothing

What should
you do if you have concerns that someone may be at risk of
abuse?
You may be concerned about someone, whether or not you know
them well. Someone may tell you something that has happened
to them you may see or hear something happening to someone
that makes you feel uneasy or uncomfortable. This website
can offer you help and advice. Where does abuse take place?
Abuse can occur anywhere. People can be abused
in their own homes, in residential or nursing homes, in day
services, at work, in education settings, in hospitals, health
centres or surgeries, police stations or in public places. |
